THEORY TEST
You have to take and pass a theory test before you can take your  practical . Once you have passed your theory test you have two years in which to pass your driving test .If you do not pass your driving test in this  two-year period you will have to take and pass your theory test again.
The theory test consists of two parts, which are taken at the same time, and both parts must be passed at the same time.
Part One: The Theory Part consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. You must score at least 43 to pass, and you are allowed up to 57 minutes for this part of the theory test. You need good background knowledge of road procedures, rules and  regulations, road and traffic signs, law… to name but a few.
During your lessons you will be taught all aspects of theory as we encounter different road situations, but you need to study the following books as well: -

The Highway Code
Driving: The essential skills
The Official Driving Test
The Official Theory Test for Car Drivers

If you have access to a computer all the information as well as practice tests can be obtained on CD ROMs

Part Two: The  Hazard Perception test was introduced in November 2002 as an aid to teaching  hazard awareness. It is intended to test your ability to react to different situations as they arise on the road. During your lessons you will be taught what hazards are and how to react to them. The test consists of fourteen video clips. There are many hazards in each clip. It is the developing hazards (hazards that cause you as the driver to take some action) that you are looking to spot. When you spot a hazard you need to click the “mouse” button, and when you see a hazard begin to develop you need to “click” again. The quicker you press the “mouse” after the hazard starts to  develop, the more points you score, up to a  maximum of five per hazard. Each video clip contains one scoring hazard with one clip containing two scoring hazards. You do not know which clip has the two scoring hazards in it. You need at least 44 marks to pass the test with a maximum of 75 marks available.
You will be given guidance on this test during lessons but it is essential that you practice on one of many
