If possible, try to gain as much experience as you can after passing your test. Pass plus is a great way to achieve this. This is a scheme, which was introduced by the government to help reduce the number of new drivers involved in accidents. It is a minimum number of six hours tuition with a qualified Instructor. It includes driving in different situations, which you may not have encountered on your lessons including: town driving, all-weather driving, out of town and rural roads, night driving, dual carriageways and motorways. I think the most beneficial area is the motorway driving as this is the only area that I will not have covered with pupils on their lessons.
Motorway lessons can be booked on their own to gain valuable experience in what can be a very dangerous place, even if you do not do Pass Plus.
Once you have completed the PASS PLUS course successfully you can benefit from DISCOUNTS on your insurance premium. (Click on the link below to the pass plus web site to see which insurance companies take part in the scheme and the discounts available). You need to complete the Pass Plus course during your first year after passing your driving test to be entitled to the discounts. Once the course is passed you may defer the discount for up to two years if you do not yet have a car.(see insurance companies for specific entitlements)
